She’s Flying Now
You never know what will happen when you get into motor homing.
Sandra Bate is the 32-year-old president of a multimillion-dollar business, all because she purchased a motor home 13 years ago. At the time, Bate was in the insurance-and-securities business in Los Angeles, California, and the motor home had been used as a mobile office. After receiving several inquiries from people interested in renting the unit, Bate decided there might be a market for rental motor homes. Within six months, she was coordination the rental for 45 motor homes.
After moving her business to Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1979, she obtained use of a toll-free number, which multiplied the company’s clientele. That success was crowned in 1984 by the link-up with Eastern Airline’s SystemOne Fly and Drive Program.
Now Bates’ fully automatic motor home-reservation system links the company to more than 22 participating airlines, making it the first RV-rental company to provide booking capability for motor homes with commissions to travel agents.
Today, Bates Rent-A-Motor Home Corporation’s clients include many entertainment and sports celebrities who enjoy the conveniences offered by a rolling hotel room when on tour. Among them: Burt Reynolds, Paul Newman and Joe Namath. |
